Gabriel Thorburn

Gabriel Thorburn graduated from Northern Michigan University's School of Art and Design and has been living in Los Angeles since 2007 working in post-production and as a filmmaker.  He was born in a hospital across the street from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (a unit of the National Park Service) and has been inspired by the natural beauty of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan ever since. After moving to California and discovering the many diverse outdoor and natural areas in the state, he has become an avid camper and continues to actively take photography trips exploring California's National Parks with his thirty-six year old camera and supply of film.

“With photography I always register a vivid memory and remember how I was feeling during the exact moment I take a photo. It's as if I am taking mental photographs when I click the shutter mechanism on my film camera. As a photographer you have to keep walking until you find something that meets your eye. I celebrate imperfections in images - every stick and old leaf is captured as it is found”.
